Dental Crowns What to Expect
Dental crowns can be used to address cosmetic dental concerns or to restore the function and form to your smile. Dental crowns are custom designed to match your natural teeth in both shape and color. A highly durable dental restoration, dental crowns look and function like natural teeth.
Through a thorough dental health exam, your Marr Family Dentist will determine if a dental crown is the right treatment option for you. Dental crowns can be fixed to a dental implant or a properly prepared tooth. The type of dental implant will be determined based on your personal oral health concern.
Receiving a dental crown may require 2-3 visits to our Greeley, CO dentist office. During the first appointment, the tooth receiving the crown will be prepared. Your dentist will remove the old crown or filling and get rid of the decay or damage. Using a dental drill, they will gently remove some of the outer surface of the tooth to create room for the tooth cap. Next, your dentist will take an impression of your teeth. This mold will be used to design your dental crown for a highly accurate and comfortable fit. The mold will then be shipped to a dental laboratory for fabrication.
While your permanent crown is being fabricated Dr. Marr may create a temporary crown for your to wear in the interim. Once your crown is made you will schedule your second visit. Dr. Marr will bond the permanent dental crown to your prepared tooth or dental implant. The tooth will be adjusted and molded to match your surrounding teeth.
